We received the sad news this week that Monika Bachmann died in Switzerland. Her husband, Norbert, was by her side. Monika was a remarkable lady, strong in spirit if not in health and steadfast in her determination to help animals in need. During a holiday on Crete she had contacted us for help rescuing a nervous, older pup. Back home in Switzerland she then founded a society to support the Haven and worked tirelessly promoting the cause of the Cretan animals, rescuing, rehoming and fundraising. She visited and helped the Haven many times but on a recent visit she was noticeably frailer than ever. Monika however, still succeeded in rescuing 3 pups now in new homes and 2 older problematic dogs.

All at the Haven feel honoured to have known this very special person, any words are trully inadequate. We will miss you dearly, Monika, may you go peacefully in the sure knowledge that you made this life a better place for many a Cretan hound.
